The Gorges of the Alcantara river are formed from solidified basalt and are quite impressive. Stop with the possibility of soft trekking
An unforgettable excursion to discover Mount Etna — a journey through nature, geology, and breathtaking landscapes.
Itinerary:
Departure by coach with tour escort to the spectacular Alcantara Gorges, where a walk along the riverbed allows you to admire the impressive basalt walls formed by ancient lava flows (entrance fee extra).
Continue aboard the charming “Circumetnea”, a traditional local train that circles the volcano, reaching Adrano while passing through lava fields, villages, and vineyards.
The tour continues by coach to Rifugio Sapienza (1,900 m) on the southern slope of Mount Etna. From here, you can enjoy a soft trekking experience to explore the most recent lava flows and the fascinating Silvestri Craters.
(Lunch not included – free time for lunch).
For those who wish to experience something truly unique, there is an optional ascent by cable car up to 2,500 m, and then by 4x4 jeep to the authorized crater area at about 3,000 m, accompanied by Alpine Guides from the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). Stop to admire the summit craters from a safe viewpoint.
