Visit the only active volcano on mainland Europe that dominates the bay of Naples! Mount Vesuvius is best known for its eruption in   79 AD that led to the burying and destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It’s estimated that thousands of Romans lost their lives during the eruption while the volcano was turning the idyllic, overgrown landscape into sand and ashes within hours. It was exactly this ash which preserved and protected the vibrant city of Pompeii situated at the volcano’s feet until future archaeologists unearthed this snapshot in time. The drive will take you up Mount Vesuvius to 1000 meters from where, if you wish, you can walk up to the crater and meet an authorized Alpine guide who will be at your disposal for any questions. Please note: Entrance fee to Vesuvius not included. Don’t forget your camera, comfortable footwear, water, sun protection and hat. Limited wheelchair and buggy access. Language available: English
